Free Fitness Testing and Nutrition Analysis
My training for the Certificate in Personal Training is coming up in November and I am looking for volunteers for me to demonstrate my skills on for the two assessments as follows:
The tests will include the skin-fold site measurement test and I will require access to certain parts of the body to ensure measurements are taken correctly (Bicep: middle of the front of the upper arm; Triceps: middle of the back of the upper arm; Subscapular: 2 cm below the shoulder blade; Super iliac: 2 cm above and 2 cm in front of the hip - midline of the body).
If you have any objection to being tested in these places please let me know.
All clothing should allow access to the areas described above. Suggested clothing:
The assessment will be carried out at the Central YMCA near Tottenham Court Road tube. Unfortunately this is a whole week day, but nearer the date I will be able to find out if it will be morning or afternoon and only need half a day of your time.
Timing is flexible, but I would hope to meet with you during the first week of December. The suggested deadline for my case study to be handed in for assessment is the 16th December.
If you would like to volunteer for either of these then please let me know.
Fitness Testing (Thursday 7th November)
For this assessment I will be carrying out six tests on you to assess your fitness levels across different parts of physical fitness. There will be some tests which involve cardiovascular work, so you may get hot, and there will be a muscular strength/endurance test (MSE) which may be strenuous depending on which test I choose.
- for women: Racer back sports bra, leggings/shorts/tracksuit bottoms;
- for men: a loose fitting vest, shorts/tracksuit bottoms.

Nutrition Case Study (First Week of December)
I will need to carry out basic information gathering including height, weight, state of readiness to change, food likes and dislikes, activity likes and dislikes, present and past activity levels. I will also need you to complete a 3 – 5 day food diary which I can analyse.Timing is flexible, but I would hope to meet with you during the first week of December. Coaching Weekend
This was an interesting ... no, useful event teaching the basics of coaching.
"Coaching" means different things to different people. This is helping someone to move from where they are now to where they want to be more quickly and effectively than they would be able to achieve alone.
I think pursuing further education in Coaching will help me become a more effective personal trainer and lead me to be a qualified Life Coach if I take this all the way.

Practical Assessment Day
Today was my practical assessment. This was an assessment in the gym to watch me put a volunteer through a full body workout.
I find exams easier - its just you, a question booklet, an answer sheet and a pen. The practical assessment is different you're being assessed on giving a "client" a full body workout. They're watching to see that I can teach the exercises so that they are safe and effective.
I was really anxious about this, but received a "good pass" so I must be OK.
I already passed the two theory papers (95% and 85% results). All I have to do now is pass a couple of written worksheets and I will qualify as a Gym Instructor.
